The QUT Optometry Clinic is open to the public and provides eye examinations, lens prescriptions and eye wear, as well as specialist services including contact lenses, children's vision, myopia clinic and low vision clinic. To make an appointment, call 3138 9777.

Consultation room

Student-owned equipment

Each student has their own hand-held equipment. This includes a diagnostic set (with a retinoscope and ophthalmoscope) as well as an assortment of different lenses to assess the anterior and posterior segments of the eye.

Student room

Smaller group tutorials are held in the student room, in which students would present clinical cases to their colleagues and their supervising clinician. Students also use this room to finalise their paperwork associated with their patient consultation, including writing referrals to ophthalmologists and other health professionals, or reporting back to GPs.

Social Work room

Psychosocial support services are provided to patients of the clinics by Social Work students, who also support the clinics' community outreach work and are supervised by a qualified social worker.

Laboratory

Students use this space to adjust and repair patients' spectacle frames, either at the point of delivery (when the patient is collecting a new pair of glasses), or at a later stage, if adjustments to the fit of the frame are required.

Contact lens laboratory

Students are able to select contact lenses from this laboratory to trial on their patient. In some cases, 2 - 3 different types of contact lenses may be trialled, to achieve the best fit, vision and comfort for the patient. Other consumables are also stored in this laboratory for students to use during their patient consultations, such as diagnostic eye drops, therapeutic eye drops and other instruments to assist in the assessment and management of ocular surface disease.
